Informative Speaking
Genre: Public Address
Type: Scripted
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Category Offered: Minnesota & Nationals
Students in this category research and write a speech on a topic of their own choosing. It is meant to inform and engage an audience rather than persuade. Oftentimes, topics can encompass unique innovations, social concepts/phenomenons, historical events, and more. Speeches often address (1) what the topic is, (2) how it’s used today, and (3) what it could mean for us in the future. Additionally, in this category, students create their own visual aids to accompany their speech in order to enhance understanding, effectiveness, and argument.

You may be a good fit if: you like to talk in detail about their interests, are creative and/or artsy, and want to engage others.
